Marta Ferraz argues that early human development in space is key in furthering human adaptation to space and boosting a new stage in human evolution. A Futurist Scientist, she collaborates with esteemed organisations like ESA and NASA, driving innovation across various Big Tech companies. Serving as the lead of The Last Frontier, and as Chief Space Research Officer at Space Born United, Marta leads research initiatives aimed at facilitating human development and reproduction in space, respectively. Her expertise also sees her as a keynote speaker at prestigious events, including TED.

Space’s distinctive characteristics present novel cellular behaviours and altered tissue development, which offers unprecedented opportunities to study and prototype next-generation biological systems. I believe, through the power of regenerative solutions and scientific collaboration, that biofabrication in space offers a unique frontier for advancing human biology. My research explores how bioprinting and engineered tissues can extend beyond traditional medicine, evolving into living, functional, adaptive systems designed for space environments. I am investigating their potential to form life-supporting architectures, responsive implants, and specialized tissues tailored to post- and extraterrestrial environments. This work aims to enhance human adaptability in extreme environments and deepen our fundamental understanding of life.
