Marta Ferraz is a futurist scientist, space researcher, innovation leader, science fiction writer, and illustrator exploring humanity's future beyond Earth. She is the Founder and Visionary Lead of ECHOES OF THE COSMOS©, a transdisciplinary initiative inspired by the Renaissance spirit of uniting science, technology, philosophy, and the arts to advance bold visions for human civilisation in space. Her work bridges space life sciences, artificial intelligence, robotics, synthetic biology, and other disruptive technologies to explore the scientific foundations of long-term human adaptation beyond Earth. Collaborating with leading organisations, including ESA and NASA, Marta combines pioneering research with visionary storytelling to inspire the next generation of space exploration. A recognised TED speaker and thought leader, she regularly delivers keynote talks on the future of humanity in space and transformative technologies.

Visionary Lead

Space’s distinctive conditions, including microgravity and altered environmental stressors, can reveal novel cellular behaviours and patterns of tissue development that are difficult to study on Earth. Through regenerative technologies and scientific collaboration, I see biofabrication in space as a unique frontier for advancing our understanding of human biology and engineered living systems. My research explores how bioprinting and engineered tissues may extend beyond traditional biomedical applications toward functional, responsive platforms for extreme environments. In this context, I am interested in their potential to support tissue modelling, regenerative implants, adaptive biological interfaces, and future life-support-related architectures for long-duration space habitation. Ultimately, this work aims to deepen our understanding of how life develops, adapts, and can be supported beyond Earth.
